Endurance Blurbs: Pre-feeding/post feeding of the endurance horse.

Pre-exercise feeding:  Keep forage high.  No large meals within 4 hours of competition (either hay or grain, better to keep them nibbling than dumping a large meal just prior to intense exertion).  Offer small grain meals 1-2 lbs. at vet checks (with free choice forage).

Post-exercise feeding:  Feed 2-4 lbs of grain within 1 hour of cessation of intense training or competition exercise to replenish lost glycogen stores.
