Our weather forecast for tomorrow

Monday's forecast:
Snow. Snow may be heavy at times. Total snow accumulation of 5 to 8 inches. Near steady temperatures in the mid 20s. East winds 5 to 10 mph...becoming northwest 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of snow 100 percent. This has been revised to 6-12 inches :(
Sounds like a set-up for blizzard condtions to me.

I did the curry comb test on Phebes today. Have heard so many say their horses are beginning to shed (sign of spring on the way). I curried, I brushed, and Phebes is retaining ALL OF HER HAIR.

After the work hour loss last week, expense of a rental, paying a body shop $20 per day for storage (so it could set parked in their driveway instead of mine)... Now do I really want to drive to work tomorrow? I'd rather stay home and do an hourly curry comb test on Phebes, and dream of better weather, dry trails, the sun on my face, and a trickle of sweat running down my back. This is becoming a winter to remember. ~E.G.

  1. My horses are loosing their hair! I was just noticing it today when I was getting ready to ride.

The snow really isn't that bad to ride in. It's not slippery where it hasn't been packed down.

Today I was galloping them at times up hill in it. Today was a really good ride on both horses. But I don't want more snow to come. Managed to ride Thursday, Saturday and today (Sunday).

  2. What a bummer... your getting the weather I usually get this time of year..From the weather report, I would say Phebes is a smart cookie hanging onto every bit of hair she has!! Just remember, this pattern can only hang on for only so long...we are on the back side of the winter season.. right???

  3. I'm seriously behind for conditioning for Chicken Chase. I've only got about eight weeks left if I really hit it hard. I might just have to do it as a training ride rather than shooting for a completion. I would sure hate that ......

Phebes is missing her work too. It is sad when that horse comes up to the fence every time she sees my face because she wants to get out and about!

  4. Come on up to Indy. We are not supposed to get much snow at all. We never seem to get as much as everyone around us. And you know me, I wish we would get more snow. I love that my horse has been clean for a week. :-) And its fun to ride in if its the right kind of snow. Doc & I were trotting, cantering, and galloping all over the place today. Fun!

As to shedding, Doc is not shedding at all yet, but another horse at my barn has started to shed. Must just depend on the horse. :-)

Here's hoping that you don't get as much snow as predicted down there in Southern Indiana and that we get more here in Indy. :-)

  5. I know how frustrating it is not to be able to condition your horse due to weather (Late November to mid January for me) It is SO awful having to sit inside wanting and knowing that u need to ride to get them ready... I don;t know about Phebes but my mare Sassy does allot of self exercising... She paces in the deep snow and runs around with the other geldings, it is a decent workout for her since she works up a sweat! If the weather takes a break u can hop on bareback with a bridle and ride her around the pasture :p I did that when the snow got so high the were stepping over the railing and getting out!

  6. Want to tell Nicole that I can't post to her blog. Not sure why. I used to. But now it won't let me. Even as anonymous.
