Reaching Critical Mass

My search for a place to work on some lessons / training seems mired down for the present. The local places one is on the market for sale (nice place if you want a horse property in Indiana), one in incommunicato (think he's out of town), and the third just doesn't seem like a good fit for us. Not giving up, but tired of doing nothing on the conditioning front.

Our weather in Indiana has been pretty crummy for the past couple of weeks. We've had so much rain that the horses sink pastern deep walking in the yard. The temps have been in the 90's and the humidity very high. Don't want Phebes to lose her conditioning base, so will have to hit the trail again SOON. ~E.G.

  1. You can come out here to ride with me if you want. To shake things up! I can go slow.

I have been helping a neighbor girl with her new small horse. Just the perfect size. 14hh, 7yrs old, little black and white paint mare. Either hadn't been rode much or not much recently. Because the horse was real rusty but listens and is learning. I took her out on her first trail ride ever alone and she was scared of the underbrush rubbing her, etc. But not so much that she would do anything bad. By the end of the ride she was a real trooper. She has improved tremendously in the two weeks I've had her. So has the 9.5 year old girl that is learning to ride on her. They have progressed to following me (on my horse) around the inside of our large pasture. Which is very large and has a big dip in the middle of it. She can even take her half way thru the pasture by herself. Probably could all the way around but I haven't allowed it yet. By the end of the week we should be able to do a short trail ride around my property. Then I'll probably ride her back home this weekend. I hate to see the little horse go. But her owner absolutely adores her. She never wants to leave when our lesson is done and her mom comes to pick her up.

Daunna Sellers gives lessons. http://www.shagya-arabs.com/ But she may be too far of a drive for you. She's the turtle rider that mentored me on my first couple LD's. She has a full size indoor arena.

  2. If you find any places that are rideable, let me know. From what I hear, everything is a mess or underwater. This weekend is out for me as I'll be in Columbus, OH for the Parelli event. But I'm hoping to get in some riding over the 4th of July weekend!

  3. I've been riding or giving lessons every night for the past two weeks. It hasn't been too wet here. We just have to start at 7:30PM when it is cooler out.

  4. I know you'll find a trainer...because you are an endurance rider and you know how to persist !

  5. I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulty finding a place for lessons up where you live. I recently moved into a new area and trying to find a place that will work is no small task. I hope something works out for you.
