An Ohio CTC

Michelle shared this link on an earlier post, so I thought I'd allot space for it here as some may be interested in CTC's.

What is a CTC? It is a Competitive Trail Challenge (not a CTR). CTC's are usually about 5, 10, or so miles depending on the sponsoring organization. Some have jack pot prizes at the end that pay cash back, others compete for awards such as belt buckles etc. The actual competition doesn't take very long, milage is low, and pace is s-l-o-w for most of them. Usually no veterinarian on site since the horses aren't really being stressed on their GO, but rather tested on what they KNOW. It is a fun venue to test what your horse is capable of, or not... :) Not exactly the venue for me, but a fun diversion for many so I thought I'd share it here. I thought of Lida because she is always trying Doc on new venues (even cutting cows with that Saddlebred!). Thanks Michelle for sharing. Info below:

  1. Well, like you say, it's not my cup of tea...I could probably sweep the "best dog" division if they were giving extra points for dogs who are very much like throw pillows.

"best dressed rider", though, is waaaaaay out of my reach!

  2. Oh?! I wondered why it wasn't in OAATS ride calendar.

  3. I'm not sure I could even pull "best dog"....

I'd be more likely to win best unintentional rollback, or longest sideways spook. I'd be golden.

  4. Doc would eat it up - the more mentally challenging something is the more he gets into it. He would much rather think his way through something than to have to put in any physical effort. :-)
