The Ten Commandments of Distance Newbie-ness

Let's go!

  1. Have fun!!!
  2. Spend a year riding long slow distance before you compete.
  3. Ride a horse that is sound, sane, and safe.
  4. Expect some trouble along the way.
  5. Find a ride buddy, or be a ride buddy.  This is the essence of enjoying the sport
  6. Read Go the Distance, by Nancy Loving, DVM.
  7. Read The Lighter Side of Endurance, by Angie McGhee.
  8. Make sure everything fits.  Tack, clothing, boots, all of it.
  9. Eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, and moving freely.
  10.  Horse first, ego last.
