Some of you know me, some of you have met me, and some are thinking who the heck...! Let me introduce myself.

"Hi, I'm Endurance Granny."

Some are still scratching their heads and thinking who the heck...

I'm an AERC member in the Midwest Region. Still cutting my teeth on Limited Distance rides, still wanting to move up to Endurance, someday, and starting out a new green horse, again. I've been blogging for a several years and have chronicled my success and misery for the world to see on my blog: http://www.endurancegranny.blogspot.com/ Some of it has been good! Ummm....sometimes, not so much. But the root of what my blog has been about is someone new trying to break into the sport with what they have. My bank of knowledge is limited to my own success and failure.

Now the reason for my invitation. I'm looking for guest writers that have (MORE) experience than I do to write a short how to article on the following subjects:

Starting a new horse in Limited Distance

What's so great about endurance riding?

Selecting a horse for distance riding

How to move up to a 50 mile Endurance Ride (and when)

What makes a good 100 mile horse vs. a 50, 25 mile horse.

Moving up to a 100 miles.

Can any horse be a 50 mile horse?

Feeding the horse to maintain energy on long rides.

You can lead a horse to water but...how do you get him to drink?

When to call it quits.

As a new rider how to build an endurance network ("who do I need to contact to get the entry form" "how to find a mentor", and where's the darned ride being held at?).

How to encourage new riders to the sport.

How to handle the first few rides, what to expect.

When can I ride competitively? Should I ride competitively?

Which is better, riding solo, or buddying up and why?

What type of horse is not suitable to the sport?

Or any topic that would be helpful to someone else in the sport.

This blog has a couple thousand hits a month and it would be great to have some different viewpoints to share with others who may be thinking of trying the sport for the first time, or are feeling stuck, or just need a little motivational kick in the pants to move up to a higher distance. Would love it if those with such a wealth of knowledge could contribute a guest article to the blog.
Many thanks!

  1. Shared on FB. I am VERY new to all of this and will be lucky to complete some LD's this year. Who knows? Maybe somebody I know has something....

  2. Excellent idea!

I may never ride Endurance, but I find the sport fascinating and exciting. I'm akin to one of those armchair history buffs, but instead I'm focused on learning all things involving horses. And I have to believe I'm not the only one?

Looking forward to future posts addressing the questions above. I hope you'll create an Info Section on your side-bar for everyone to easily find what they're looking for, too.

    Thanks!
